Roofing or re-roofing does not require a permit; however, there are minimum roofing material standards and roofing/re-roofing contractors require contractor registration.
Residential Roofing/Re-Roofing: Please see allowable roof materials below.
- Composition Shingles: Composition shingles must be architectural or dimensional and have a minimum 30-year warranty. Class 4 Impact Resistant (hail-resistant) composition shingles are recommended but not required. "Standard" three-tab shingles and roll composition roofing are not allowed.
- Tile: Concrete and clay tile roofs are permitted provided the roof framing/structure is designed to support the weight of these materials.
- Metal: Standing seam, R-panel, and metal “shingles” are permitted.
- Slate: Natural and synthetic (concrete, rubber, etc.) slate “shingles” are permitted.
Nonresidential & Multifamily Roofing/Re-Roofing: Please check with Development Services staff for details on allowable nonresidential and multifamily roofing/re-roofing materials.
Submittal Requirements:
- Contractor Registration
- While not required by the City, it is advisable that re-roofing materials are approved by HOA prior to installation for homes on residential lots within a neighborhood with a homeowners association.
